Japanese Sri Lanka Friendship (JSF) Corp celebrated on Saturday the start of solar panel production at a facility in Katunayake which became Sri Lanka’s first solar manufacturing plant.

The company, a unit of Japanese firm REK CO Ltd, will sell the photovoltaic (PV) panels under the Sakura Solar brand. It will also offer inverters, batteries and LED lighting.

JSF’s plant is located at the Katunayake Export Processing Zone. The establishment of a local solar factory will support Sri Lanka’s clean energy goals, while it would also export to other markets.
