to-the-point: Sunlabob to build 11 solar microgrids in Myanmar

Laos-based Sunlabob Renewable Energy has been awarded contracts for the turnkey construction of solar-powered microgrids in 11 villages across Myanmar’s states of Shan and Chin.

As part of the deal, the company will supply the materials, design and build the battery-backed solar power systems, as well as train the locals. The project is backed by the country’s Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Rural Development’s (MLFRD) Department of Rural Development (DRD) and is funded by the Japanese International Cooperation System (JICS), according to the press release.

“All signs point to decentralized renewable energy, such as solar micro-grids, being an important ingredient to the electrification of rural communities and businesses in Myanmar for years to come,” CEO Andy Schroeter noted.
