Turkish telecommunications group Turkcell (IST:TCELL) last week cut the ribbon on a new data centre in Ankara, which it says is the first solar-powered facility of its kind in the country.

The new facility will provide cloud services to Turkish public institutions and organisations and will also enable international companies to store data in Turkey. The data centre is equipped with a photovoltaic (PV) panel system installed at its parking lot, the mobile network operator said on Friday.

The capacity of the solar array and the specific type of panels it uses were not provided.

“At Turkcell, we integrated sustainable solutions into our core business,” says Turkcell’s Murat Erkan.
