to-the-point: Turkey’s Zorlu Energy to build solar in Palestine

Turkish firm Zorlu Energy has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build and operate solar power facilities in Palestine.

The deal has been signed with Palestinian power distribution firm JDECO, which supplies a quarter of the total electricity in the country, the Anadolu Agency said on Wednesday, citing information from Zorlu Energy.

Palestine aims to source 10% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020. The country is highly dependent on power imports as 89% of its total electricity supply is purchased from neighbouring Israel, whereas 3% comes from Egypt and Jordan, according to information provided by the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).
