Tocardo sells 2.5 MW of water turbines in Nepal

Jun 14, 2012 - Ducth hydro-power turbines maker Tocardo International today said it had sealed a deal to sell 25 turbines with a combined capacity of 2.5 MW to Nepalese renewable energy firm Glow Tech Solutions.

The 25 units of the Dutch company's 100-kW T100 turbines will be installed in fast-flowing rivers in Nepal to generate electricity. Glow Tech Solutions had obtained licences to install a total of 10 MW of water turbines in the Asian country, Tocardo said.

The deal is supported by the Dutch government, which has provided funds for the creation of a joint venture in Nepal between Tocardo and Glow Tech Solutions to help deploy the 25 turbines. The joint venture could also lead to local production and assembly of turbines should demand for the technology increase in the next several years.

Tocardo says that at the moment it is the only company globally that commercially markets mass-produced turbines for power generation in rivers and sea currents. It is offering on the market its T100 device and the larger 200-kW T200 turbine.
