Japanese consortium to study floating vertical axis wind turbines
Sep 11, 2024 15:57 CESTSep 26, 2012 - Dutch free-flow hydropower turbine maker Tocardo International today said it had started the production of six turbines under supply deals in Nepal and Japan.
As part of an agreement unveiled in March the company is to provide 8 MW of bi-directional turbines for installation in Japan over a period of three years. In June, it announced a deal for 2.5 MW of uni-directional turbines to be installed in fast-flowing rivers in Nepal.
Tocardo's turbines are free-standing underwater units that produce energy from sea currents, tidal and river flows. The company offers turbines of 100 kW and 200 kW and is also developing 500 kW and 1 MW offshore devices.
