Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFrench independent power producer Total Eren and UK-based energy group Chariot Ltd (LON:CHAR) announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to build a solar farm with an initial installed capacity of 30 MWp to supply electricity to the Karo Platinum Project in Zimbabwe.
The partners will now work together to develop, finance, build and operate the PV power plant. The decision follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Total Eren and Karo Mining Holdings and a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) for the supply of electricity to the platinum mine, the parties said.
Karo Mine, which is currently under construction, is located some 80 kilometres (49.7 miles) southwest of Harare. The solar farm will be sited close to the mine, and according to the announcement, there is potential for it to be expanded to up to 300 MWp.
Chariot, an Africa-focused transitional energy company, is pursuing its target to deliver 1,000 MW of renewable energy and sustainable projects across the continent. More recently, it partnered with Total Eren to study the potential for the development of a large-scale green hydrogen project in Mauritania.
