Total Quadran adds 1.5 MWp of solar at L'Oreal's Vichy factory in France

Total Quadran, the renewable power production unit of France’s Total SA (EPA:FP), has installed a 1.5-MWp solar array at a French production site owned by domestic personal care products maker L’Oreal.

The photovoltaic (PV) installation at L’Oreal’s Vichy production plant will enable the cosmetics company to meet 33% of the facility’s power consumption with renewables electricity. The installation consists of parking lot awnings with nearly 4,000 PV panels, covering a surface area of 9,500 sq m (102,250 sq ft), Total said on Tuesday.

Apart from the solar panels, the project also included the installation of charging points for electric vehicles (EVs). It was implemented to support L’Oreal’s sustainable development commitments. Its Vichy plan, located near the thermal springs of Vichy in the Allier department of France’s Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region, has been carbon-neutral since 2018.

Total will carry out a research and development (R&D) project on the site of the Vichy factory that will see it monitor the performance of the bifacial PV modules on the awnings, it said.
