A joint venture (JV) between French energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) and Japan’s Eneos Holdings Inc (TYO:5020) has been awarded a 13.8-MWp rooftop solar project in the Philippines.

TotalEnergies Eneos Renewables Distributed Generation Asia Pte Ltd will build the solar array on one of the manufacturing facilities of Philippines-based beverage company Asia Brewery Inc (ABI). The JV will install and operate the system, which will consist of more than 24,000 solar panels. ABI will buy the electricity generated over a nine-year period.

The project is among the largest single-site rooftop solar developments in the Philippines delivered under the no-capex business model, TotalEnergies Eneos said on Monday. The installation will produce about 20,000 MWh a year, allowing the manufacturing facility to meet about 24% of its power needs with renewable energy.

“Aside from translating to cost savings and energy efficiency for us, this is one of our contributions in the fight against global warming," Asia Brewery president and chief operating officer Michael G. Tan said of the project.

TotalEnergies and Eneos announced plans to create a 50/50 joint venture to develop onsite solar for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in Asia earlier this year. The Singapore-based JV aims to develop 2 GW over the next five years for customers in Japan, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Singapore and Malaysia. It announced its starting string of projects totalling 34 MWp in August.
