TotalEnergies, Veolia to install 17-MWp solar park in Oman

French energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) and compatriot water, waste and energy management company Veolia (EPA:VIE) have teamed up to install a 17-MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project at a desalination plant in Oman.

To be located at the Sharqiyah Desalination plant in the city of Sur, the PV system will be the largest for a desalination facility in the country, the partners announced on Wednesday.

With more than 32,000 high-efficiency solar panels spread over an area of 130,000 sq m (1.4 million sq ft), the solar park will be able to produce over 30,000 MWh of clean electricity per year, enough to meet more than a third of the desalination plant's daily consumption.

The plant will also be equipped with an innovative East-West tracker system to boost its output.

At present, Oman is aiming to have 30% of its electricity come from renewable sources by 2030, the duo noted.
