TotalEnergies wins concession for 35-MWp solar park in Angola

TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) has secured a concession for the construction of a 35-MWp solar park in Angola, together with local partners, the French energy major said on Thursday.

The so-called Quilemba photovoltaic (PV) project will be implemented by a joint company, in which TotalEnergies owns 51%, affiliates of Angolan state-controlled petroleum and natural gas producer Sonangol (30%) and Greentech - Angola Environment Technology (19%). While the initial capacity of the scheme is 35 MWp, it offers the potential for a second phase to expand the original plant with an additional 45 MWp, TotalEnergies said.

The proposed solar farm is planned to be installed in the southern city of Lubango, the capital of the Huila Province, and is due to become operational at the end of next year. The generated electricity will be sold under a fixed-price power purchase agreement (PPA).

Once up and running, Quilemba will be TotalEnergies’ first solar park in Angola.

“Quilemba will allow us to harness the country's solar potential and develop a sustainable model for the production of electricity,” said Patrick Pouyanne, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
