Car parts manufacturer Toyota Boshoku America Inc (TBA) will offset 100% of the power consumption of its US and Canada facilities with the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs) associated with a recently completed 252-MW solar facility developed by Clearway Energy Group in Texas.

The agreement, which has a 12-year term and will come into force in 2026, is related to Texas Solar Nova 1, the first phase of a 452-MW solar project developed in Kent County.

“This contract along with other activities we continue to undertake show our on-going commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050,” said Ryan Hunt, TBA vice president of production control.

Phase One of the USD-660-million (EUR 613.4m) Texas Solar Nova project was finalised in December, while the second part of the project is nearing completion, according to a statement from Thursday.
