Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTFebruary 13 (Renewables Now) – El Salvador paved the way for the construction of its first wind farm after the country’s Economy Minister Luz Estrella Dominguez signed on Tuesday a contract with developer Ventus SA de CV guaranteeing legal stability for investments.
Ventus SA de CV, a unit of Guatemalan power generation operator Tracia Network Corporation, will be in charge of building a 54-MW wind farm in El Salvador’s municipality of Metapan, the department of Santa Ana.
The Ventus project was awarded to Tracia Network in El Salvador’s renewable energy auction in 2017. It was the only wind scheme that came out winning in the auction that saw 119.9 MW awarded to four solar projects.
The project will carry an investment of USD 73.230 million (EUR 64.7m) over a period of ten years.
In addition to diversifying El Salvador’s power mix, the Ventus park will create 20 permanent jobs in the operations and maintenance (O&M) phase and 300 jobs during the construction work period. Electricity generated by the wind farm will cover the demand of approximately 80,000 local homes.
Information on the beginning of the construction phase has not been made available.
