Chinese solar equipment manufacturer Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599) will supply its Vertex modules for a 135-MW solar power project in South Africa, designed to provide clean electricity to a domestic mining company.

The Merak 1 project, as the initiative is known, will use 205,161 pieces of Trina Solar’s 210mm p-type bifacial Vertex panels, the Chinese company said.

These panels will power operations of South African miner African Rainbow Minerals Ltd (JSE:ARI). The project will be executed by a joint venture between two South Africa-based companies -- solar projects developer Sola Group and construction engineering group Wilson Bayly Holmes - Ovcon Ltd (JSE:WBO), Trina Solar stated.

The Merak 1 solar farm will be operational by the end of 2024.
