Chinese solar equipment manufacturer Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599) may invest between USD 700 million (EUR 661.3m) and USD 1 billion in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, the state governor’s office said on Monday.

Governor Samuel Garcia made the announcement while on a working tour in China, where he met with Trina Solar’s executives. He said that the aim of the tour was to attract renewable and environmentally friendly companies to Nuevo Leon, and highlighted the state’s proximity to Texas as an advantage.

The news comes about a month after Trina Solar said it would invest over USD 200 million to build a 5-GW solar panel factory in Texas.
