The government of Tunisia has issued a fourth tender for solar photovoltaic (PV) projects, again seeking to award 70 MW of capacity.

The call for projects was launched by the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies on Thursday as part of the country’s renewables procurement programme. Interested parties will be able to submit bids by February 9, 2021.

The tender covers the construction of six solar farms of 10 MW each and 10 smaller plants with individual capacities of up to 1 MW. As in the previous rounds, selected bidders will be awarded long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with state-owned utility Societe Tunisienne de l’electricite et du gaz (STEG).

Tunisia has set a goal of adding 1 GW of renewables in 2017-2020 and 1.25 GW in 2021-2030. For this purpose, the country is organising a series of tenders, the last one of which awarded contracts to 16 projects totalling 70 MW. Bids in the latest round reached as low as TND 0.1253922 (USD 0.0456/EUR 0.0391) per kWh. In December 2019, a total of 500 MW of solar projects were awarded to various bidders.

(TND 1.0 = USD 0.363/EUR 0.311)
