The government of Tunisia has ratified the concession and power purchase agreements (PPA) awarded to AMEA Power LLC in relation to the construction of a 100-MW solar power plant in Kairouan.

The Dubai-based clean power company won the project alongside TBEA Xinjiang New Energy Co Ltd in December 2019 after taking part in an international tender. They now expect to begin construction work by the end of 2022.

Once up and running, the solar park will produce almost 223,171 MWh of electricity annually.

Tunisia aims to raise its renewables share to 30% by 2030, which, according to AMEA Power chairman Hussain Al Nowais, corresponds to an additional installed capacity of about 4 GW.

AMEA Power itself has some 2,000 MW of renewable energy projects in operation, under construction and in development.
