Turkey Hill Dairy completes wind power installation

(ADPnews) - Mar 25, 2011 - US ice cream and iced tea maker Turkey Hill Dairy said today that it had completed the installation and is already received power from a wind farm on the banks of the Susquehanna river.

The two turbines at the wind power plant were installed near the end of October 2010 and started operations in January this year. For February alone, the installation generated 769,677 kWh, covering 32% of Turkey Hill Dairy power supply.

The facility was constructed in cooperation with PPL Renewable Energy and the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority. It is to provide a quarter of Turkey Hill Dairy's electricity needs, or enough for the production of 6 million gallons (22.7 million litres) of ice cream and 15 million gallons of iced tea per year. The facility will save 5,900 tonnes of greenhouse gases annually, as much as would be offset if 1,000 cars were removed from the road.
