Turkish steel structures maker Cimtas Group, a unit of Istanbul-based engineering and construction firm ENKA Insaat ve Sanayi AS (IST:ENKAI), intends to enter the market in Uzbekistan as a manufacturer of wind turbine towers.

Representatives of Cimtas Steel met with Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade, Nozim Kholmurodov, last week to discuss the matter.

According to a media release by the Uzbek ministry, the two parties have determined that the supply of equipment for wind turbines and the localisation of the production of towers are the most optimal direction for Cimtas’ local activity. The company is particularly interested in the production of towers in the Tashkent region because it would provide the opportunity to export the products to Central Asia.

The ministry has expressed willingness to aid the potential investor in this project, the statement concludes.
