All funds in place for 1.5-GW Al Ajban solar project in Abu Dhabi
Sep 18, 2024 8:34 CESTA joint venture of renewables developer Masdar and French utility EDF (EPA:EDF) has been awarded a project to develop a 7-MWp ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) plant to power a new data centre of UAE-based provider Khazna in Abu Dhabi.
A contract for the project has been signed between Khazna and Emerge which was set up to focus on distributed solar generation, energy efficiency and street lighting in the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Under the terms, Emerge will finance, design, build and operate the solar park for 25 years.
The power plant will supply the Khazna Abu Dhabi 6 (AUH 6) data centre which is currently under construction in Masdar City and is set to open next year. The facility is Khazna's second data centre in Masdar City.
The solar park will expand Emerge's portfolio in Abu Dhabi to more than 25 MWp. In July, the business agreed to install an 8.2-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant on the roofs of the SeaWorld Abu Dhabi theme park which is being built on one of UAE's most popular islands.
