All funds in place for 1.5-GW Al Ajban solar project in Abu Dhabi
Sep 18, 2024 8:34 CESTAbu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC, or Masdar, the flagship renewables company of the UAE, and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), whose aluminium production makes up one of UAE’s biggest exports, will partner on aluminium decarbonisation.
Under an agreement, unveiled today, the companies will look into the joint development of renewable energy projects, possibly with battery storage and green hydrogen production and storage, to help decarbonise EGA’s existing and any future operations in the UAE. The pair will also collaborate internationally for Masdar to support new aluminium production facilities of EGA with renewable energy sources.
“Aluminium plays an essential role in decarbonisation economy-wide, which is why demand for this metal has the potential to grow by as much as 80 per cent by 2050,” said EGA chief executive Abdulnasser Bin Kalban.
"Strong partnerships such as this are exactly what the world needs to accelerate our path to Net Zero. When organisations combine their knowledge and resources to help decarbonise vital industries, we not only protect the environment but we also boost the economy," commented Masdar’s chief executive Mohamed Al Ramahi.
