UK Haniwells to build USD 61m solar plant in central Ukraine - report

(SeeNews) – Oct 23, 2014 – UK property development and solar energy company Haniwells will invest UAH 800 million (USD 61.3m/EUR 48.5m) in the construction of a solar power plant in Ukraine’s central Cherkasy region by July 1, 2015, the press service of the region’s administration said in a statement seen by local agency Ukrainian News on Wednesday.

The company has picked local company Clean Energy-2011 as the main contractor for the project. According to the firm’s co-owner Serhiy Marchenko, the first phase will have a capacity of 25 MW. Haniwells could add another 75 MW of solar capacity should the first stage of the project is commissioned successfully, he told the agency.

The solar power unit will be built on a 50 hectare-plot in the city of Kamianka on the site of a firmer sugar plant. The project is expected to create 40 jobs.
