UK Sol Invictus plans 27-MW solar park in Bermuda

Sep 19, 2012 - UK-based solar power and thermal systems installer Sol Invictus Holdings on Tuesday unveiled plans to build a 27-MW solar power park in Bermuda at a press conference.

The company intends to construct the photovoltaic (PV) system at LF Wade International Airport using 83,000 solar modules. Sol Invictus's founder Tim Madeiros told reporters that the solar plant was to generate 44.7 GWh of electricity a year. The volume is equal to 176% of the estimated additional required generation capacity of Bermuda's utility Belco, which will make it unnecessary to expand the country's existing fossil-fuel power plant.

The Bermuda government aims to fetch 30% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020 and the planned solar power facility will help the government achieve a portion of that goal.

When the solar power plant gets government approval, Sol Invictus will press ahead with financing and construction.
