ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTJan 19, 2012 - Wind energy capacity in the UK has reached 6 GW, enough to power more than 3.3 million households, the latest report of local wind and marine energy association RenewableUK shows.
According to the report, published late on Wednesday, the threshold was passed after the Ormonde wind farm, off the coast of Cumbria, said it had 120 MW of capacity operational.
Commenting on the news, RenewableUK's CEO Maria McCaffery said that "this is a landmark achievement" and added that another 19.5 GW of capacity were under construction or in planning stage.
McCaffery said further that the renewable energy industry in the country was convinced it would be able to achieve the target of 31 GW of onshore and offshore wind capacity by 2020 as outlined in the government's renewable energy roadmap.
