Queensland Hydro picks contractors for 2-GW pumped storage project
Sep 18, 2024 6:05 CESTPolish hydrogen technologies integrator Hynfra is leading a team that plans to build a green industrial zone in the Ukrainian city of Bucha in a drive to help it achieve energy independence through the production of renewable energy, green hydrogen and ammonia.
Hynfra announced on Friday it has entered into letters of intent (LoIs) with Japanese technology supplier Tsubame BHB Corporation and Ukrainian engineering firm UTEM for the execution of this project.

The partners intend to build the complex on 3,000 hectares (7,413 acres) of land. It will include solar and wind parks, hydrogen and ammonia production plants, as well as facilities for the storage of ammonia and oxygen. Tomoho Umeda, CEO of Hynfra, noted that the company is developing a similar concept in Sanok, Poland.
“This will be the first such project in Ukraine. It’s strategically important from the point of view of our energy independence and will ensure that our city has its own alternative energy sources,” commented Anatoliy Fedoruk, mayor of Bucha, who witnessed the signing of the documents.
A press statement says that the project’s objectives are currently being prepared and that this will be followed by a feasibility study.
Bucha, situated in the Kyiv region, is initiating a process of intensive recovery as it suffered huge losses, both in terms of civilian casualties and infrastructure, last spring during the first months of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
