Romania's CIS Group to build 23-MW solar park at home
Sep 19, 2024 9:59 CESTUkrainian private energy group DTEK has acquired a 60-MW solar photovoltaic project in Romania, beefing up the portfolio of its EU-focused renewables arm in the Balkan country.
DRI, DTEK’s wholly-owned Amsterdam-based renewables subsidiary, said on Thursday it bought the project from Romanian developer Finas Group, which handled the initial work, secured land and permits.
The project is known as Glodeni II, located in the Glodeni commune, north-central Romania. It will be a sister plant to DRI’s nearby operational 53-MW Glodeni I solar farm, together forming one of the largest such facilities in Romania, according to DRI.
The Finas Group also did early work on the first Glodeni project.
Preparatory construction work on Glodeni II started earlier this year. DRI expects the solar farm to be operational in the summer of 2025.
Beside Glodeni I, DRI has an operational 60-MW wind farm in Romania. The company recently acquired a 126-MW solar project in Vacaresti, which it expects to start building by the end of 2024.
Following the Glodeni II acquisition, DRI expanded its Romanian portfolio to 299 MW, with a target to build 1 GW in the country by 2030.
DRI's strategy is to grow across the EU through the acquisition of greenfield projects and portfolios and partnering with local developers. The company is currently present in Romania, Poland, Croatia and Italy.
