Ukrainian energy group DTEK has restored the operation of a 10-MW solar park in Kherson and resumed the construction work on a wind project, chief executive Maxim Timchenko said on Friday.

During a briefing, Timchenko said that DTEK is "taking every opportunity to install wind turbines to increase electricity generation for the country". More details about the project were not disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Trifanivska solar power plant is again generating electricity after the region was recaptured by the Ukrainian army. The solar park, which went online in 2017, stopped operation after coming under Russian occupation. Its power generation equipment was severely impaired as it was shelled by the Russian forces and some of its panels were stolen, DTEK said in an earlier statement.

Since the Russian forces were driven back, the solar farm has been gradually resuming operation and the repair processes are ongoing. At the beginning of February, two-thirds of the inverters at the park were already working and DTEK Renewables was in talks with local transmission service provider Khersonoblenergo on the repair of the substation in order to raise the electricity fed into the power grid.

In the briefing on Friday, Timchenko again expressed support for the idea to boost Ukraine's renewable energy capacity to 30 GW by 2030 with the help of equity guarantees by EU governments and international financial institutions. This would be equal to a 50% renewables share in Ukraine's capacity mix and would enable 15 GW of clean energy exports to the EU in the form of power and green hydrogen.
