Ukrainian energy group DTEK expects to begin operating a new 19-turbine wind farm this spring as part of a larger project with a full design capacity of 500 MW for the further implementation of which it will be holding talks with international donors and partners.

DTEK said on Friday that it is completing the construction of the 114-MW first phase of the Tyligulska wind project in the Mykolaiv region. This phase is expected to achieve its full capacity in the coming weeks, according to Rinat Akhmetov, founder and shareholder of System Capital Management (SCM) Group, which owns DTEK.

The commissioning of this wind park comes at a time when Russia continues to target Ukraine’s critical infrastructure with missile strikes. On Thursday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) director general Rafael Grossi told BBC that because of a series of attacks, the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was completely cut off the off-site power lines, thus losing all sources for its cooling systems. Eventually, it was reported that the connection was restored.

In its statement, DTEK said it views the development of green power generation as a priority and a way toward Ukraine’s post-war recovery. The country aims to achieve 30 GW of green energy by 2030, corresponding to a 50% share of power generation.

Presently, Ukraine’s installed renewable energy capacity, including what DTEK referred to as temporarily occupied facilities in the south, amounts to 10 GW.
