UK green hydrogen developer Meld Energy said on Thursday it has secured approval from the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for its 100-MW green hydrogen project in Hull in the Humber region of the UK.

The company plans to build the GBP-250-million (USD 319m/EUR 296m) green hydrogen production facility at px Group’s Saltend Chemicals Park, which is a home to businesses like BP Petrochemicals Technology, Vivergo Fuels, Yara, Mitsubishi Chemicals UK, Ineos and Air Products, as well as the Triton Power station.

Meld Energy’s project will be able to meet up to 30% of the park’s existing hydrogen demand. The developer is bidding for funding from round two of the government’s Hydrogen Production Business Model, which aims to support up to 875 MW of hydrogen production and is expected to announce successful projects later this year.

“It is hugely positive that Meld has received planning permission for its Green Hydrogen Production Facility here at Saltend Chemicals Park and we look forward to collaborating with them further throughout the development and build phase,” said Geoff Holmes, CEO of px Group.
