UK company PV Energy Ltd is carrying out a 10-MWp solar power project in Antigua and Barbuda under a contract with the government of the twin island country in the Caribbean.

The project involves large-scale installations totalling 8 MWp and numerous smaller projects, Switzerland-headquartered The meeco Group said on Monday. PV Energy is a joint venture between London-based property investor Peter Virdee and The meeco Group.

As part of the contract, PV Energy is equipping more than 50 schools and other public buildings with its sun2roof photovoltaic (PV) roof installations. So far, solar arrays have been deployed at 12 schools, with PV Energy providing one more school with sun2roof installations every week, according to the announcement.

The project is in line with the government of Antigua and Barbuda's efforts to reduce dependency on polluting diesel generators and tackle power cuts.
