World set to install 593 GW of new solar in 2024 - Ember
Sep 19, 2024 13:28 CESTConsumer goods giant Unilever NV (AMS:UNA) has succeeded in reaching its target of using 100% renewable power at its factories, data centres, warehouses, among other facilities, across five continents ahead of 2020.
Unilever said that 38% of its supply was arranged through corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs) and green electricity tariffs. In places where that was not feasible, the British-Dutch company purchased renewable energy certificates (RECs).
To support the early achievement of the 100% renewables target, Unilever has also invested in energy efficiency programmes with which it managed to cut the total energy consumption by 28%. In addition, the company’s facilities in 18 countries generate on-site solar power.
The company is pursuing a goal of becoming carbon neutral before 2030.
