ABP presents plan to turn Port of Barrow into renewables hub
Sep 18, 2024 14:41 CESTGerman energy group Uniper SE (ETR:UN01) on Tuesday unveiled plans for an electrolytic hydrogen project with an initial capacity of up to 120 MW at its Killingholme site, in the UK’s Humber region.
The Humber H2ub (Green) project will be developed as part of Uniper’s ambitions for its Killingholme Energy Transformation Hub.

In addition, Uniper said it has signed a collaboration agreement with Phillips 66 Ltd to work towards supplying green hydrogen from the project to the latter’s Humber Refinery from 2029. The hydrogen would replace refinery fuel gas in industrial-scale fired heaters, supporting Phillips 66 in reducing the refinery’s scope 1 operational emissions.
Guy Phillips of Uniper said the Humber H2ub (Green) project is a key part of Uniper’s hydrogen ambitions in the UK. “The Humber region is recognised as the UK’s most carbon intensive industrial region and hydrogen will be vital in decarbonising and securing the region’s economy,” Guy Phillips commented further.
Uniper aims to build more than 1 GW of electrolyser capacity across its business by 2030. The company will be looking to secure a Low Carbon Hydrogen Agreement with the UK government for its newly unveiled project. In December, the government announced support for 11 green hydrogen production projects totalling 125 MW of capacity under its first hydrogen allocation round (HAR1).
