University of Cyprus to build 10-MW solar park - report

Jan 2, 2013 - The University of Cyprus has received the green light from the United Nations (UN) to develop a 10-MW solar plant in the UN buffer zone in Nicosia, PV Magazine reported today.

The total cost of the development is estimated at EUR 14 million (USD 18.6m), to be equally split between the University of Cyprus and the Athanasios Ktorides Foundation.

Construction of the facility is planned to commence in the next few months and be over by the end of the year, the University of Cyprus recently told the magazine. The university has also received all planning permissions from the Cypriot authorities, according to the report.

The solar park will generate 17 million kWh of electricity each year and cover the university's power needs, which are currently about 16 million kWh, according to its calculations. The produced power will be sold to the Electricity Authority of Cyprus.
