Ukraine could pocket EUR-1.5-billion (USD 1.6bn) from power exports to the European Union by the end of the year, after this week securing the right to trade with neighbouring grids, news outlet Euractiv reported citing an adviser to the Ukrainian energy minister.

Ukraine’s lines to export power to Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland are ready, the adviser, Lana Zerkal, was quoted as saying. Under normal circumstances, we will be able to earn about EUR 1.5 billion, Zerkal said in an interview with Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, Euractiv reports.

The financial estimate comes just after Continental Europe transmission system operators (TSOs) established key technical conditions that will enable Ukraine to gradually start commercial electricity exports.
