Urban Green Energy, GE install wind-powered EV charging station in Spain

Aug 14, 2012 - US groups Urban Green Energy (UGE) and General Electric Co (NYSE:GE) today said they had deployed the first integrated wind-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the world near Barcelona, Spain.

The system, called Sanya Skypump, combines UGE's 4-kW vertical wind turbine with GE's Durastation EV charging technology. It was installed by UGE's Spanish unit, UGE Iberia, at the global headquarters of Cespa, the environmental services arm of transportation infrastructure investor Ferrovial Servicios.

The companies said that other Sanya Skypumps would be installed at shopping malls, universities and other locations in the US and Australia later this year. The product is aimed at commercial and government customers.
