The nation’s power plants produced around 14,727 GWh of electricity in 2022, down by 8% year-on-year, according to the energy report for the year, which the ministry said was preliminary at this point and based on estimates.
Fossil fuel electricity accounted for 9% of the generation mix, down from 15% in 2021. The share of hydro power was estimated to be 39%, followed by wind power at 32%, biomass-based thermal power 17% and solar 3%.
Final power consumption rose by 2% on the year as Uruguay’s economy grew by 4.9%. Electricity exports fell by 50%, the ministry said.
