US Chargepoint buys Dutch Viriciti in boost to commercial EV fleet services

August 12 (SeeNews) – US electric vehicle charging infrastructure provider Chargepoint Holdings Inc (NYSE:CHPT) on Wednesday unveiled the acquisition of Dutch charging services provider for electric buses and trucks Viricity for EUR 75 million (USD 87.9m), as part of a push to bolster its enterprise and public sector electric mobility offerings.

Founded in 2012, Viriciti has operations in the Netherlands and the US, serving 150 fleet operators, 3,500 connected vehicles and 2,500 networked ports under management in Europe and North America. Its clients include UK bus network operator Arriva, the public transport authorities in Berlin, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Toronto, US bus manufacturer Gillig and French public transport operator Keolis.

"Adding Viriciti’s vehicle management capabilities to our fleet portfolio allows Chargepoint to deliver more functionality to e-bus and commercial fleet operators, while remaining open to integration with existing telematics systems," the US company's president and CEO, Pasquale Romano, said.

The acquisition is seen to boost Chargepoint's hardware, software and services portfolio with online systems that can optimise EV battery management, charging station monitoring, vehicle communications systems, maintenance and operations data.

The deal comes less than a month after the US company agreed to pay EUR 250 million for Austrian EV charging solutions provider Has.to.be so as to capitalise on the upsurge in the Eeropean electric mobility sector.
