US DoE appoints technology transfer director

Chanette Armstrong, a registered patent attorney, has been appointed as director of the US Department of Energy's (DoE) Office of Technology Transitions (OTT), the DoE announced on Monday.

Armstrong is tasked with overseeing the DoE's efforts to foster innovation and speed up the commercialisation of technologies from its laboratories.

OTT was created in 2015 with the aim of expanding the commercial impact of the DoE's research and development (R&D) activities. As its director, Armstrong's responsibilities will cover the DoE's programme offices, 17 national laboratories, and other research and production facilities across the US. She will also oversee the DoE's Energy Investor Centre and the Technology Commercialisation Fund. In addition, Armstrong will serve as the DoE Technology Transfer Coordinator, an advisor to Energy Secretary Rick Perry on technology transfer and commercialisation activities.

Perry expressed confidence that under her leadership, the department will "further accelerate innovation and advance commercialization for the benefit of the American people."
