The US is willing to invest in renewable energy projects in Cyprus, including in two large solar thermal power plants there, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) said on Wednesday.

Former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright has announced the US’ interest in the matter during her visit to Cyprus. The news agency quoted Cyprus’ agricultural minister Nikos Kouyialis as saying that the concentrating solar power (CSP) projects could be supported by US investments funds.

The two schemes, one in Limassol and one in Nicosia, are being developed by Alfa Mediterranean Enterprises Ltd and PFXT Thermosolar Renewables Ltd, respectively. Each of the parks is planned to have a capacity of 50 MW. Both have agreements in place for financing support under the second phase of the NER300 funding programme of the European Commission.
