US solar job numbers rise 116% in H1 2014 - Ecotech Institute

Aug 13, 2014 - The number of US solar energy technology jobs in the first six months of 2014 jumped by 116% year-on-year, according to Ecotech Institute’s Clean Jobs Index.

For wind technology jobs the rise was 65%.

The college said in a press release on Tuesday that overall, there were 2.64 million clean jobs postings in the first and second quarters of this year. This represents an increase of 87.5% on the same period of 2013. The figure includes all jobs related to activities that benefit the environment or conserve natural resources, Ecotech noted.

Renewable energy technology jobs grew by 63%, while for energy efficiency growth was more modest at 53%.

Data for the Clean Jobs Index come from a number of independent research entities such as the US Department of Energy and the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency.
