Iberdrola inaugurates 496-MW Saint-Brieuc wind farm offshore France
Sep 19, 2024 16:25 CESTThe US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) said on Thursday it has provided grant financing to back a feasibility study for an up to 40-MW solar project in Malawi.
The grant was awarded to Malawi-based Golomoti JCM Solar Corp, a subsidiary of renewable energy group JCM Power. The aim of the study will be to estimate the potential for constructing a solar photovoltaic (PV) park in the Golomoti region of Malawi with a capacity of between 17.5 MW and 40 MW.
The study itself will be conducted by US-based Power Engineers Inc, whose task will be to determine the suitable size of the project and assess the possibility of including battery storage capacity. Collected data and analysis will be presented to Malawi’s government.
JCM is co-developing the Golomoti Solar Initiative with InfraCo Africa, part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG).
Malawi, the landlocked country in southeast Africa aims to reach 30% access to energy by 2030, with the share rising to 60% by 2040.
