Uttar Pradesh plans to energise expressway with 550 MW of solar

The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh plans to deploy 550 MW of solar arrays along the Bundelkhand Expressway to illuminate both the road and nearby homes and enable e-mobility solutions, as widely reported by local media.

The state government has put Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) in charge of developing the project across 1,700 hectares of identified land along the 296-km-long highway.

Following presentations by eight solar developers, including Torrent Power and Avaada Energy, the process is now moving to the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage, according to the reports. The project will be realised under the public-private partnership model.

UPEIDA estimates that this development, once completed, will generate INR 40 million (USD 480,000/EUR 440,000) from lease rent and result in an annual profit from the sale of electricity of INR 500 million.
