Uzbekistan is looking to have more than 20 GW of renewable energy capacity by the end of the decade and to increase the share of renewables in the energy balance to 40%, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev stated on Thursday.

Having launched 1.4 GW of large wind and solar farms in 2023, the country is now witnessing work being undertaken on 28 additional projects, according to the President, who spoke at the third Tashkent International Investment Forum. He underscored some existing partnerships with companies like Masdar, Gezhouba and China Energy, and also pointed at a green hydrogen project with ACWA Power.

“The most notable aspect is that these significant projects are being implemented based on public-private partnership and directly through foreign investments,” he said.

On the occasion, President Mirziyoyev also noted that the government will present during the forum joint projects to build hydroelectric power stations in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
