NGK to supply NAS batteries for demo project in Hungary
Aug 30, 2024 16:46 CESTFinnish process technologies provider Valmet Corp (HEL:VALMT) said today it has won a EUR-25-million (USD 26.7m) order in Hungary from a local unit of French utility group Veolia (EPA:VIE) for a coal-to-biomass conversion project.
The contract calls for Valmet to deliver the main equipment and handle the complete scope of the project to convert two coal-fired boilers to bubbling fluidized bed combustion. Following completion in the first and second quarters of 2024, the boilers will be able to run mainly on biomass fuel.
"We are gradually converting our existing coal-fired power plants to run on more environmentally friendly and sustainable fuels. After the recommissioning, the Oroszlany power plant will produce more than 600 GWh of renewable electricity, making up about 1.5% of today's electricity consumption in Hungary," commented Gyorgy Palko, CEO of Veolia Energia Magyarorszag Zrt.
