French independent green energy operator Valorem said on Friday it has officially opened a 22-MW wind farm in the Occitania region of Southern France.

The Saint-Amans-Valtoret plant in the Tarn department is equipped with 10 turbines and is expected to generate about 61 GWh of electricity annually and offset 24,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. The output of the machines made by Denmark's Vestas Wind Systems is estimated to be enough to cover 5% of the power consumed by the entire department.

The wind farm in the Angles plateau was brought online this summer, when Valorem also inaugurated a 9-MW wind farm in northwestern France’s Mayenne department, along with its partner Societe Energie Mayenne.

Valorem realised the Saint-Amans-Valtoret project by mobilising 538 local lenders via a crowdfunding campaign.

Since its launch in 1994, Valorem has installed more than 900 MW of renewable energy capacity across Europe and has a portfolio of projects under development totalling 6.3 GW, its website shows.
