Dutch marine contractor Van Oord said on Wednesday it has been awarded a contract for another offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea, Iberdrola SA’s (BME:IBE) 315-MW Windanker offshore wind farm.

Van Oord has been tasked by the Spanish utility with transporting and installing 21 XL monopiles and transition pieces for the project, located in the German waters of the Baltic Sea. The contract also includes the design, supply and installation of the inter-array cable grid. Van Oord will install the monopiles using its heavy-lift installation vessel Svanen, which by the time of deployment will have been upgraded to be able to handle the next generation of monopile foundations. Van Oord will in addition deploy its cable-laying vessel Nexus, as well as trencher Dig-It, which will bury the cables. The wind park is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026.

Van Oord was also contracted on Iberdrola’s Baltic Eagle offshore wind project.

This week, it was also announced that Oslo-based transport and installation services provider Havfram has been engaged by Iberdrola to erect the turbines for the Windanker project.
