Swedish energy group Varberg Energi has sealed an agreement of intent with OX2 AB (STO:OX2) to procure electricity from its compatriot’s majority-owned 400-MW Galene offshore wind farm and solar projects on the western Swedish coast.

The pact aims to facilitate the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs), OX2 said on Monday. Specifically, the parties will pursue a PPA for the offshore park and an off-take deal for one or more photovoltaic (PV) projects in Halland County, western Sweden.

The Galene complex is planned to be installed about 22 km (13.7 mi) outside the city of Varberg, along the Halland County in the country’s economic zone. The wind farm will be built as part of the 1.7-GW Galatea-Galene project which OX2 owns together with Ingka Investments.

The 400-MW scheme was greenlit by the Swedish government in May last year. Planned to use up to 21 turbines, it will have an annual output of roughly 1.7 TWh. OX2 aims to start building works in 2026 and bring the park online in 2028/2029.

Details about the solar projects that could be contracted by Varberg Energi were not provided.
