Vattenfall agrees offshore wind cable supply framework with TKF

Dutch cable manufacturer TKF will supply inter-array cables for offshore wind projects in Europe developed by Swedish state-owned utility Vattenfall AB under a multi-year partnership that was announced today.

The agreement encompasses the delivery of 66 kV inter-array cables and will be applicable to all European offshore wind farms with bottom-fixed foundations that Vattenfall will develop in the upcoming years.

The framework contract will come into effect immediately, with the first project to be the German Nordlicht cluster. The initial duration is three years, with a potential extension of five more years.

Sustainability has been a key factor in the procurement process. According to the announcement, TKF has committed to reducing the carbon dioxide (CO2) impact and increasing the circularity of the cables, which involves the use of low-carbon aluminium and recycled copper for the cables’ conductor material.

“With this framework agreement we are taking a major step in the synergy of project specifications and therewith in the reliability and efficiency of wind farm projects,” Catrin Jung, head of offshore wind at Vattenfall.

Alexander van der Lof, chief executive of TKF’s parent, TKH Group, said the partnership follows successful cooperation with Vattenfall in the Hollandse Kust Zuid 1+2 projects.
