Vestas almost back to normal operations after cyber incident

Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) on Monday said almost all of its IT systems are now up and running after the cyber security incident it discovered on November 19.

The incident impacted the company’s internal systems and compromised data. While the extent of compromised data is still being probed, currently it seems the data mainly relates to Vestas’ internal matters, according to the announcement. The company maintained there is no sign customer and supply chain operations were affected by the incident, which its investigations suggest was ransomware.

The manufacturer said that together with its external partners it has worked intermittently to conduct investigations, forensics, restoration activities and hardening of its IT systems and IT infrastructure. The work and investigations are continuing.

“We have been through some tough days since we discovered the cyber incident, and Executive Management and the Board of Directors are thus very pleased that the incident didn’t impact wind turbine operations and almost all of our IT systems are running again,” said president and chief executive Henrik Andersen. “There is still a lot of work ahead of us and we must remain extremely diligent towards cyber threats,” he added.
