IEA urges proactive measures to integrate renewables
Sep 18, 2024 11:17 CESTJun 6, 2014 - Danish wind turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) said today it has received an order from EDP Renovaveis (ELI:EDPR), the green energy arm of Portuguese power utility EDP (ELI:EDP), for the upgrade of hundreds of wind turbines in the US.
Vestas will provide its newly launched PowerPlus technology upgrade solution to bolster the efficiency of the existing wind turbine generators. The Danish firm started offering the service in May and EDP Renovaveis is its first client.
The head of Vestas’ sales and service division in the US and Canada, Chris Brown, expects Vestas PowerPlus to accumulate strong sales on the US market as there has been significant interest in the product so far.
The upgrade solution includes two options for modifications to the turbine control parameters -- the Power Uprate which boosts the output, and the Extended Cut Out which increases the maximum wind speed limit for the machines. Furthermore, Vestas PowerPlus clients can choose the Aerodynamic Upgrades which represent Vortex Generators using small fins to optimise air flow over the blades resulting in better aerodynamics and a higher annual output.
